The Prime Minister’s Rally

It was a chilly morning blanketed by thin fog and cold winds. The “Mall Road” vicinity with its greenery and open spaces had plenty to offer. The temperature too was much cooler and there was no stopping the chilly winds. But all this wouldn’t affect the grandeur and aura of the place. The presence of military personnel in their handsome uniforms was a sight to watch. There was on show their strictness, punctuality and tidiness. It all felt so patriotic. They looked ever committed.
The Delhi cantonment parade ground was a big enough ground to accommodate the Prime Minister’s rally on the NCC day, having well decorated stands, with young cadets assisting the guests to comfort. After the arrival of the Honorable Prime minister of India, the Defense minister, the three service chiefs, the parade begun.
To begin, cadets of all the three wings gave the guard of honour to the nation’s Prime minister. This was followed by a smart display of march-past by the NCC cadets consisting of both girl and boy cadets. It was one of those rare and heartening experiences when one gets to see members of both the sexes stand shoulder to shoulder. One of the most striking features of the event was the real time enemy combat operation being at display. This amazing show depicted use of battle tanks, combat helicopters and sophisticated weaponry by trained commandos to overcome any threat to our national security. One could also see Para-diving beside other mind-boggling events. Micro light planes won the heart of spectators by displaying artistic flying abilities. However, the one specific event which was the most special and satisfying was the young cadets displaying various drills which seemed both difficult and dangerous to perform. It was just thrilling to watch the cadets jumping through fire rings. This was followed by a colourful group event. To ensure that the spectators don’t lose thread of the event, we had a wonderful commentary team from Doordarshan who continuously presented a detailed account of things to come. The event lasted for about two hours which was full of excitement and wonder. It came to an end with the honorable Prime minister distributing trophies and medallions and awarding the NCC flag to the winner state. At the end the Prime minister, in his speech described the young cadets as symbols of bravery.
It was altogether a wonderful and refreshing event which would last a life time in the memories of those who had the privilege to witness it.
